This is a great point; remote internships really are an incredible way for companies and candidates to evaluate how well they match with one another, especially in a time when international travel isn't necessarily possible.
Many companies in Japan are focusing their efforts on domestic candidates, including many of our partner companies, but we are working hard to make remote internship opportunities available. We are also hard at work to bring on new companies to our program under the pretense of providing remote internships until relocation becomes a possibility. However, the hesitancy of Japanese companies to adapt to this newer management style does present a challenge, and does mean that these opportunities become more competitive.
We are actively contacting candidates who have signed up with our programs and are currently eligible for these roles, and we hope to be able to widely broaden the pool of candidates as more remote internship opportunities become available, hopefully in the near future!
