Japan borders reopening

Hello,

I recently read that starting in March, Japan is planning to open their borders again for up to 5000 people per day. In light of this, I was wondering when the internship placements for overseas candidates will start again? Do you have an idea if it would be possible to arrange an internship starting in August/September 2022 like this?

Also, I had registered before but was told there were currently no opportunities (due to the border closure, I presume). Do I need to re-register now or will my original application just be reviewed?

Yes, we are very pleased to hear that the borders will be opening up soon, and we are hoping to begin arranging placements as soon as the entry framework has been fully finalized! I expect that an August/September 2022 internship should be very feasible if things continue to proceed well from here.

In terms of your registration, there are no additional steps for you to take at this time as we will simply review your existing application. We will contact all eligible candidates if we have any opportunities for which they are eligible. Please contact us via email if you have any updates to your information.

I was also wondering about the preliminary video call. I am guessing you will start with this once the border situation is clear and the registration has been reviewed, right? There are namely a few requirements and questions from my university that I didn't really know where to fill it in on the registration form, so I guess these would have to be discussed in the video call.

Yes, that is correct, the overall selection process for overseas candidates will fully resume once the border situation is finalized by the Immigration Agency of Japan. However, due to high traffic in our program registrations, instead of a preliminary video call, we are currently inviting candidates to participate in self-conducted video interviews. Candidates will be able to speak with one of our Global HR Consultants through video call at a later time if they are selected to move forward, which would be suitable timing to discuss university requirements, etc. You are also welcome to email the requirements and any questions to us by replying to the email message sent to you after registration.
